WHO WE ARE
TAMPEI is the technical support unit of the Homeless People's Federation Philippines Inc. (HPFPI). Consists mainly of young architecture, engineering and planning professionals, TAMPEI assists the Federation in community-led initiatives such as provision of technical services in low-cost incremental housing design, community upgrading, settlement mapping and planning initiatives at different scales. They also develop tools and methodologies to carry out these processes from community to city-level developments.
TAMPEI is recognized as a dynamic movement of professionals and paraprofessionals advocating people-driven processes and ecologically sound practices in human settlements development.
"To capacitate community members by providing technical support on settlement development to HPFPI and other networks at city, program and project levels."
Direct technical support to HPFPI in planning and implementation at city, program and project-levels
Conduct research and development to continually develop alternatives, tools, processes and technologies for urban poor communities
Professional development by maintaining a system of mutual support and learning amongst community technical professionals
Formed in 2010 as a support arm to the Philippine Alliance, the primary goal of the institution is to provide technical assistance to urban poor communities in their upgrading initiatives and to promote community-led processes, guided by the belief that communities have the capacity to find solutions to issues affecting them and that they should be the prime planners of their own development.
TAMPEI operates within the Philippine Alliance, a group of non-governmental institutions promoting community-led initiatives in human settlements development. At the core of the Alliance is the Homeless People’s Federation Philippines Inc. (HPFPI) with expertise on community mobilization and implementation of savings program. The Philippine Action for Community-led Shelter Initiatives Inc. (PACSII) acts as the legal and financial partner-NGO of HPFPI. TAMPEI is the technical arm. LinkBuild Inc. is a housing development enterprise. Community Resources for the Advancement of Capable Societies (CoReACS) is a micro-finance institution supporting the housing schemes of HPFPI.
As a movement, TAMPEI welcomes members from diverse backgrounds - students, young professionals, paraprofessionals - who share the same principle of designing with by and for the people. The following are the current Board of Trustees of the Movement.
